History of the Internet
I think it's important to understand at least a bit of the underlying technology behind all the "21st Century Knowledge" tools we're using in this class, and the most fundamental one is the Internet. You could read any of the great books written about these things (I loved "Chip: How two Americans invented the microchip and launched a revolution", by T.R. Reid) but your reading list is probably a little long right now. This 7-minute video, however, gives a great, simple but technologically deep overview of the development of the Internet - and it does it with great style.
