A new company that offers a down-loadable app that will soon be available for Android users. The new app “hopes to cut through most of the chaff.” The “chaff” the article is referring to is the information overload that most people these days are starting to feel. The main “chaff “helps eliminate unimportant RSS feeds, Face book updates, and twitter reports.
Now that I have begun to delve into the subject of information overload, I find more information about information overload. Or as Alanis Morissette Grammy nominated song says, Isn’t it Ironic? Now there is an app that will tell me what updates would be of interest to me and ridding me of the rest. This is starting to seem like Artificial Intelligence to me so I went to the collective societal authority of information, “Wikipedia” for the definition of AI. Here is some of what I came away with,
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents"[1] where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success.”Wikipedia”
What was interesting was this part of the definition, where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success? I saw on the nightly news that Google now has an 'instant' search. The goal is to provide a fast search engine that knows what you are typing and will bring it up almost as if reading your mind. Is information overload leading to artificial intelligence?
