Privacy

When I decided to change my RSS feed, I added several new feeds referencing my research topic, “What is the ethical impact of information technology?” One feed, “Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies” brought up an article on Surveillance and Privacy. My research will focus mainly on the ethics of “information technology” which includes the topic of privacy. The article was written by David Brin who wrote, “The Transparent Society: Will technology force us to choose between privacy and freedom?” This book peaked my curiosity and I would like to: 1) use it as a reference for my research paper and 2) research the privacy/technology topic in length in the future. While more and more of our information is less and less private, Brin fears; “that society will overreact to these technologies by restricting the flow of information, frantically enforcing a reign of secrecy.” This could mean that information will only be available to a select few such as, Government agencies, police stations and credit bureaus. And that scares me more than identity theft! ~ Kim Evans
