Because I am focusing on rights to information and knowledge for my research project I have added Wikileaks on Twitter to my RSS feeds. Compared to the suppression of the Pentagon Papers in the 1960s, Wikileaks has published information about the war in the Middle East.
What is different about the release of the Pentagon Papers and the information contained at Wikileaks is that the war in Vietnam was almost over when the Pentagon Papers were released. Opinions and pundits are state that Wikileaks is releasing real-time information that endangers US and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the sources used for developing strategies to bring the conflict to an end.
I hope to be able to utilize the newsfeed to gain a better understanding of the public’s right to know as well as develop a context of what our responsibilities are as stewards or guardians of information.
