Holocaust .com Website

I was assigned to the .com website group in class last Saturday. I have selected About.com for this assignment. The article simply titled “The Holocaust” is written by Jennifer Rosenberg. Some would argue that About.com is scarcely more creditable than Wikipedia, but I disagree. Everything I have ever read from this website has been written by knowledge authors, but that’s not to say that incorrect or inaccurate information couldn’t somehow find its way there. But isn’t that true for any website? About.com has a rigorous screening process that you must make it through in order to become a writer for the website. This isn’t a free for all where anyone can post information and pass it off as facts.

Jennifer Rosenberg holds a bachelors degree in history from the University of California. She has published multiple articles at About.com, several encyclopedia entries, and numerous other articles written about historical events.

The Holocaust article she published on About.com is so versatile that it will accommodate everyone from the beginner, who knows absolutely nothing about the Holocaust, to the expert who wants to verify a date or location of a certain event. Being as I am not an expert on the Holocaust I have to assume that the information contained on this website is correct. I have reassurance that the website contains factual information because the author has worked as a “fact-finder” for books that have been written on various historical events. I would find it odd that she would not verify the facts included in her own article.
